Welcome to the Art of Teddy Kell

I'm delighted to be able to show so much of my work in one place at this website, and to such a large audience.
 
I've been drawing and painting seriously for a very long time, and my head, my house and my studio are full of images. Even a one-woman show or a visit to my studio can show only a small selection

My work is almost always figurative, although reptiles and insects often are the figures. Generally though, there is either a person or some symbolic indication of the presence of a person. Only when the landscape is very dear to my heart (Pyramid Lake and the east side of the Sierra are examples) is there just a landscape. In that case I think the "person" is me - in memory.
 
It's fun to be able to tell about where the pictures come from too, because most of them have back-stories. I've found that people bring their own back-stories to my images and may respond strongly to something I wasn't even aware of. I've learned a lot that way.
 
In going through the digital files to get this website up I reached into the grab-bag and pulled out images to put into the above categories for you (click on a thumbnail image to see the work), to help make some kind of sense.
 
Not all the prints and originals shown here are still available. You can email me about any particular one, using the inventory number by the title. I'd love to hear from you. I paint for myself, but the operation isn't complete until someone else sees it and responds.
